I heard Great White's Once bitten twice shy this afternoon while being forced to listen to the local Classic Rock station. (Or one of them, I don't really keep track of commercial radio anymore.)
I believe that the conclusion is unescapable: classic rock is dead. If the term had any meaning before other than "songs you'd thought you'd gotten away from a dozen years ago", then it does so no longer.
Perhaps the masses will now see their way to rising up and tearing down the bastions of classic rock, replacing them with broadcasters of music that doesn't suck.
But probably not.

Find The Artists

Having seen this contest posted in a few places now, I thought I would share it with you.
If you look at this image you will see a number of bands represented (ie 'The Eagles' - eagles flying on the right... 'Pet Shop Boys' - boys hanging in front of the pet shop... 'Smashing Pumpkins' - the guy using the sledgehammer to, well... smash pumpkins!)
There is a high res version as well, but it chops off the sides.
I'm told that there are over 70 bands here if you look closely. How many can you get? Feel free to post your answer in the comments.

Musical Listening: After the Music's Over

I have gone through some life-altering experiences in the last year, the worst of which has actually been the end of my relationship with KC. I'm finding that I'm leaning an old emotional crutch right now: My Music Collection.
Here's what I'm finding to be good recovery music, in no particular order, and in no ways complete, and I know that there are some that will end up fitting into multiple categories:

Civ 4 Issues Persist

I'm in the midst of the 1800's and playing the Indians (Brenti for those of you at home). I just really like those fast workers. I've managed to found all religions, circumnavigate the globe, and every single other civ either hates me or loves me. I've decided that religion is critical to initial productivity in the game. Time to set personal biases aside for the sake of gameplay there. Call me a convert if you will. I typically go for Buddhism first and then Hinduism, then Judaism, pick up a couple of science to improve land yield or defenses, then back to getting religions (Confucianism, Christianity, Taoism, then Islam, in that order). The best part is the other civs take so much longer then to get a religion of their own, slowing them down.
Unfortunately the downside is the game is crashing every 10 to 15 turns again. Now it is indicating it is attempting to access address zero instead of silently dying.
I am going to waiting for the next patch (I'm running 1.09 now) before I continue playing again.
Some other notes: Combat is quite a bit more messy. It really looks like you have to totally destroy the other person's infrastructure/land improvements to be effective at taking them out. I happen to like retaining infrastructure so it is less work when I take over enemy cities, but I guess there is no helping for it. Otherwise I'm expending too many resources building units to throw against enemy walls.

Purchased a Home

We have been going to a bunch of open houses here and found one we liked a couple of weeks ago and made an offer. Well, all of our conditions have been met, the inspection is done (a lot of work to do on it) and our adjusted offer accepted.
The place is a split level home with attached garage. It was built in '77 and needs some major and mostly minor work done on it. There will still be money left over from the downpayment to get it fixed up in the summer.
Closing date is January 27th which totally fubars any opportunity to join Dale and Al and others on a trip to Cuba.
